Bike to Throw Seed Balls
Join this Saturday-morning, easy ride down the Acequia Trail to the Institute of Applied Ecology’s “Seed Ball Throw” event, which is taking place in conjunction with IAE’s Pollinator Palooza the previous day. As an alternative to the Railyard at 9:30 am, join us at the back of Ashbaugh Park around 9:45, or anywhere else on the way down the acequia. Or just show up with your bike at the Institute of Applied Ecology’s offices at 1202 Parkway Dr., Suite B, at 10 am to join the fun from there.
We will to learn about IAE’s work to conserve native species and habitats, try out the amazing bicycle-powered seedball maker (below), and set out with a bundle of mud seedballs to distribute along the nearby River Trail to encourage the proliferation of pollinator-friendly wildflowers. As we distribute the seedballs, we can work our way up the River Trail to get back to where we started well before noon.
Ideally you will bring some kind of satchel, or a small bag that you can hang from your handlebars or off of your hip, to hold dried mud seedballs that you can throw as you ride. If you have trouble coming up with something, we can try to help once we’re at IAE!
