SFCT worked with several local schools to promote International Walk-to-School Day on Oct. 6, 2021.  The main event was a procession from the Santa Fe Public Library’s South Side Branch up the Arroyo Chamiso Trail in Tierra Contenta to Cesar Chavez Elementary School, Capital High School, and Nina Otero Community School.  About 70 people participated, including roughly 35 students, parents, and teachers from Nina Otero and nearly 20 from Capital High School’s HOSA program for future medical professionals.  Also walking with us were City Councilor Tiger Abeyta, Chief of Police Andrew Padilla, Nina Otero Principal Tricia Gharrity, Maria Tucker Sanchez and Kristen Sandoval of the Santa Fe Public Library, and photographer Luis Sánchez Saturno who got us a nice “Photo Feature” in the next day’s Santa Fe New Mexican.

El Camino Real Academy also held a “Walk and Roll to School” event from Cottonwood Village Mobile Home Park, Wood-Gormley Elementary School held a general Walk-to-School Day, and Cesar Chavez Elementary School held a “walk-at-school” event to mark the day.
