A Collaborative Learning Workshop by Melissa Houser of Santa Fe Conservation Trust and Jan-Willem Jansens of Ecotone Landscape Planning, LLC. During this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to use slash and wooden posts from junipers to build structures and implement specific lop & scatter techniques for soil stabilization. Based on the completed Rangeland Management Plan for the property, which in turn is based on Bullseye monitoring findings from 2024, a series of rangeland improvement treatments have been flagged for implementation by volunteers. Participants will receive instruction on how to implement treatments such as juniper removal, construction of wicker weirs, spreading of brush mattresses, building of log mats, and lop & scatter of slash. A printed technical guide will be available for purchase for $15.00.
Lunch will be provided. Tools and work gloves will be provided. If you have work gloves feel free to bring your own. Please wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sturdy boots and a hat. Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Registration will open closer to the event
This workshop is funded by a grant from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
