Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is a national event promoted by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) that was organized locally by Michael Cahill of the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society (SFFTS).
Over a dozen kids showed up at La Tierra Trails’ La Cuchara Trailhead and were welcomed by friendly SFFTS members including Stephen Newhall of Rob and Charlie’s Bicycle Shop, who provided free bicycle check-ups and tune-ups.
Then they enjoyed a talk by bicycle-mounted police officers from the Santa Fe Police Department, who led young and adult participants in some fun games to practice controlling their bikes through tight turns and around other cyclists. Of course, before and after, everyone had fun riding La Tierra Trails!
The Santa Fe Conservation Trust helped spread the word on this event and the Trails Program Manager brought a couple of kids along for the fun.
