Dale Ball Day was a success! We started the afternoon at the “Corral” trailhead with a personal recognition of Dale and Sylvia Ball’s contributions to the preservation of open space and trails in and around Santa Fe. Also receiving recognition were City Councilor Patti Bushee as well as many other city and county officials and private organizations and individuals who have worked together and continue to support local trail efforts. Despite some fickle weather, the celebration continued with a guided hike and a bike ride led by the Trails Alliance of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society.
Many participants also took the opportunity to see some of the “demonstration” trail maintenance activity. It was more than just a demonstration as volunteers from SFFTS, TAOSF, and the Santa Fe Masters Program “de-bermed” some problematic trail sections on the ridge west of the corral so that water would not continue to erode the trail surface. Special thanks go to County Volunteer Coordinator Carol Branch for lining up the Masters Program volunteers for this event!
