We just wanted to wish you a happy Valentine’s Day weekend, which looks like it is going to be cold and snowy. What better time than to hunker down with your beloveds and watch some Banff films? See the information and link below. A small percentage of your ticket sales will come to our organization, so if you like what you see, watch all the bundles! Some new films were just released on February 4th.
If you are inclined to get something last minute for your love(s), don’t forget to designate us as your charity of choice on Amazon Smile so that .5% of your eligible purchases will support our land and trails work. Every little bit helps!

And if you are really feeling the love this weekend, the Santa Fe Reporter is looking for nominations for the best environmental nonprofit for 2021. We were honored to be the top pick in 2020, and we are still going strong in 2021! Today we have more than 42,000 acres under conservation easement and are working to connect our patchwork of over 100 conservation easements into larger, connected areas.
Why is this important? Because biodiversity is the foundation for human health, and habitat fragmentation due to human encroachment and development is thought to be the largest threat to biodiversity. Human populations cannot exist without a global environment that is healthy and capable of supporting a diversity of life. Little by little, as small populations of wildlife or plants become isolated from all other populations of the same species, they risk inbreeding and local extinction. It therefore makes economic and development sense to protect the biodiversity of northern New Mexico! Here’s another good reason to vote for us: we work with volunteers to maintain the 55 miles of dirt trails for the City of Santa Fe (pro-bono, as the pandemic forced the City to cancel their contract with us last year.) Plus we’ve had a hand in the development of over 75 miles of trails in and around Santa Fe! Are our local trails keeping you sane? Do you appreciate our work to protect the biodiversity of life that sustains us? We’d appreciate your vote! Click here and write us in: https://vote.sfreporter.com/local-living/best-nonprofit-for-the-environment.
And finally, we’d like you to know that we love you and all the support you give us to do our work. With climate change, the extinction crisis and the global pandemic, there has never been a more compelling time to support conservation than right now. We are truly grateful for all you do to move our work forward. Here’s a virtual hug to all of you, and best wishes for a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend!
Sincerely,
Sarah Noss

Tax Time Info
In 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act gave taxpayers who take the standard deduction the ability to take an additional above-the-line $300 federal income tax deduction for qualified charitable contributions. (“Above-the-line” means that the deduction is above line 15 on the 2019 1040 tax form, and will reduce both your adjusted gross income and your taxable income — which, in turn, reduces the amount of federal income tax you owe.)
For the 2021 tax year, the charitable deduction is even better, at least for those who file a joint return. For 2020, the charitable limit was $300 per “tax unit” – meaning that those who are married and filing jointly can only get a $300 deduction. For the 2021 tax year, however, those who are married and filing jointly can each take a $300 deduction, for a total of $600. So this year, you and your honey could each make a $300 gift to SFCT to reduce your tax burden and help us protect the land, trails and skies of northern New Mexico for future generations to enjoy!
